*A 16-year old Lincolnwood girl has been charged with stabbing Uber driver, Grant Nelson as he dropped her off last Tuesday. No amount of research has shown any indication as to why as of this writing.
Eliza Wasni is being held without bail according to the state attorney’s office of Cook County. Lincolnwood police said they responded after calls about “…a male screaming for help.”
The incident occurred at approximately 3:22 a.m. Tuesday morning and the teen is being charged as an adult for first-degree murder.
Though Nelson, 34, had been stabbed multiple times by the time police arrived at the scene, he was conscious enough to describe Wasni; who police found hiding behind a building in possession of two weapons, one of which appeared to be the weapon used in the incident.
A spokesperson for the ride-share company issued this statement.
?We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our partners, Grant Nelson,? a spokeswoman for Uber said in a statement. ?Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.?
Again, no reason has been given by the suspect, who police say declined to make a statement when she was arrested, as to what prompted this heinous attack. Seeing as this passenger is only 16, and the Uber website notes people must be at least 18 to use the service, the spokesperson didn’t speak on whose account actually ordered and paid for the trip.
The Chicago Tribune reports a service for Nelson, who attended New Trier High School, is planned for noon Friday at Chicago Jewish Funerals in Skokie.
The family asked for donations to be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness’s Cook County North Suburban chapter and the Anti-Cruelty Society.
Police said this is the first homicide in Lincolnwood since 2006.
