This is just one of the endangered animals survivalists Ah Lin Tuch and her husband Phoun Raty monetized on YouTube videos that showed them skinning and eating animals that included endangered fishing cats, king cobras, stingrays and frogs, according to the Metro.
Once viewers of their YouTube channel Natural Life TV realized several of the animals were actually protected, they reported the couple to the authorities.
Now deleted videos showed Ah Lin eating a large lizard, shark meat, frogs, and a number of protected birds.
- The couple claims that they bought the animals from a local market and did not actually kill them themselves.
A manhunt for the couple was ordered on Wednesday by the Minister of Environment in Cambodia, where the couple lived.
The couple apologized for destroying the animals, but as noted above, claim they didn’t actually kill the animals, they say they purchased them from a store.
“We are now in the process of taking legal action against them while the working group is preparing a report on the matter,” said Chea Sam Arng from the Environment Ministry’s General Department of Administration for Nature Conservation and Protection.
“The animals that were cooked were mostly not on the endangered list, but are protected. Only one species was in danger of extinction.”
The couple reportedly deleted photos showing them cooking some rarer species, but the ones still available are guides that tell how to capture frogs and prepare meals.
They say they made approximately $500 from the videos. Authorities are investigating.
