Still in Prison for the Murder of Their Wealthy Parents 28 Years Ago, See (and Hear) the Menendez Brothers Today (Watch)

The Menendez brothers in court, on trail, following the murder of their parents.

*”I am the kid that did kill his parents, and no river of tears has changed that and no amount of regret has changed it.” These horrific words from the mouth of Lyle Menendez — open the interview he did  with ABC News reporter, Terry Moran, via phone. It is the first interview he’s done since 1996, when he spoke with Barbara Walters. That was 7 years after he and his older brother Eric, murdered their wealthy parents on August 20, 1989.

“At the heart of this story, the ‘what’ matters less than the ‘why’ is a statement made by the defense attorney for the brothers on the new Law & Order series about the brutal murders (see official trailer below). While many will hopefully watch this show, even more will want to know what is happening with the still incarcerated brothers since.

That’s where we come in.

Eric Menendez (L) and Lyle Menendez (R) speak with Barbara Walters in 1996

The ABC News interview is nothing short of fascinating; especially if you are the type of person intrigued with the mindset of someone who would do such a thing. The interview special is called Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers

In the interview, Lyle says, “I accept that you are often defined by a few moments of your life, but that’s not who you are in your life, you know. Your life is your totality of it? You can’t change it. You just, you’re stuck with the decisions you made.”

“It’s shocking to think…that I could have been involved in taking anyone’s life?and my parents’ life…it seems unimaginable because it seems so far removed from who I am,” Menendez admitted. “But I found that my own childhood prepared me surprisingly well for the chaos of prison life.”

In the video directly below, Terry Moran, who as a young reporter, covered the case that he says still “haunts me” and “just grabbed a hold of me and wouldn’t let go!”recalls his interview 20 years later with a Lyle Menendez who no doubt has learned a lesson on accountability.

Lyle Menendez looks like a man at peace with his life, yes?

The brothers, who last saw each other on that previously mentioned Barbara Walters Special, will never see each other again. In the video directly below we hear from neighbors of the Menendez family; including a family friend who says Eric Menendez jumped in her car the very next morning after the murders saying he needs her husband’s legal assistance and didn’t even look sad.

Whew!
