Man Sues Date For His $17.31 Movie Ticket…Because She Was Texting During Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2

Put your phone down, sweet thing, or you just might get sued.
Put your phone down, sweet thing, or you just might get sued.

*The man I’m about to tell you about and I are soulmates.  Brothers from another mother.  We share a pet peeve:  folks texting during a movie.

But my boy has taken his frustration about the rude, increasingly more common practice to the next level!

Brandon Vezmar, 37, took a first date to see Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2.  According to his lawsuit — yes, he’s suing her! — his date started texting about 15 minutes into the movie.

Vezmar wasn’t having it.  Not for a single moment.

“This is…one of my biggest pet peeves,” Vezmar said.  “It was kind of a first date from hell.”

Vezmar claims that the woman “activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages.”  He also claims that his date ignored his requests to stop texting during the show.

“I said, ‘Listen, your texting is driving me a little nuts’ and she said ‘I can’t not text my friend'” he said.  “I said ‘maybe you can take it outside to the lobby, I’ve seen people get kicked out movies for this.'”

Vezmar says the woman left the theatre and never came back, leaving him stranded as they’d driven to the theatre in her car.

So Vezmar is suing his date, for the $17.31 price of his 3D movie ticket.

Now, as is usually the case, there are two sides to this story.  But before I tell you what the woman has got to say, allow me to chime in:

I am Groot!

I am Groot, or "Put yo phone down, beeeatch!"
I am Groot, or “Put yo phone down, beeeatch!”

People texting during movies drives me NUTS.  Maybe not “nuts” enough to sue them for the price of my movie ticket, but “nuts” nonetheless…and as anyone who’s ever been in a relationship with an African American man knows, it’s a slippery ass slope.

And any self-respecting first date should know not to do anything that will mar the viewing experience of a brotha’s beloved comic book movie.  Hell, if she’d have done that to me during Man Of Steel or Batman v Superman, I might have slapped her with more than a lawsuit.

Put your phone down, beeeatch!
Put your phone down, beeeatch!

When the woman heard of the lawsuit, she issued a statement:

“I did have a very brief date with Brandon that I chose to end prematurely. His behavior made me extremely uncomfortable, and I felt I needed to remove myself from the situation for my own safety. He has escalated the situation far past what any mentally healthy person would.”

Did girlfriend just call me and Vezmar crazy?

“I feel sorry that I hurt his feelings badly enough that he felt he needed to commit so much time and effort into seeking revenge. I hope one day he can move past this and find peace in his life.”

Yeah, she called us crazy!

The woman, by the way, has requested that her name not be published.

So who’s the crazy one?   Vezmar and I STAND by our words!  Hell, Vezmar filed a lawsuit, and there’s a byline on THIS blog!

The anonymous alleged texter claims she only texted two or three times.

“I had my phone low and I wasn’t bothering anybody,” she said.

Clearly, she was bothering somebody enough that he sued her!

“It wasn’t, like constant texting.”

But it was, like, texting — which according to Vezmar’s lawsuit, was a “direct violation” of the theatre’s policy.  The suit also claims that his date’s texting “adversely” affected Vezmar’s viewing experience and that of other patrons.

“While damages sought are modest,” the petition said, “the principle is important as defendant’s behavior is a threat to civilized society.”

“…a threat to civilized society.”  OK, maybe boy IS a little cray,

“I’m not a bad woman,” the anonymous alleged texter said.  “I just went out on a date.”

No, sweetheart. You went out on a date, blatantly violated theatre policy, and rudely ignored your date’s repeated requests to modify your behavior, and he sued you.

Extreme?  Perhaps — but dude got his point across, and rest assured this woman will think twice before she grabs that phone in a movie theatre again

— and so will you! Put your phone away during the movie!   Or, to put it another way:

I am Groot!
