*They teach our children, give us anesthesia before surgery, and apparently, run for office…and even win. I’m talking about Ku Klux Klan members (and their supporters) folks.
Case in point: Three former prison guards in Florida; who also happened to be members of the KKK, were tricked during an elaborate sting into thinking that the Black man they were plotting to murder upon his release, had already been killed.
Now we know these “members” in general are not smart people, so it probably wasn’t a difficult task to bamboozle them.
But I’m getting ahead of myself.
The murder plot involving Elliot Moran, 49, and Charles Thomas Newcomb, 45, came about after a third guard, 27-year-old Thomas Jordan Driver (another Klan member), was bitten during a fight with the inmate. The three guards believed the inmate was infected with HIV and hepatitis and enlisted the services of an FBI informant to murder the man.
A multi-agency investigation got hold of telephone recordings that had Newcomb talking about the intended murder — saying they would shoot the man if poisoning him with insulin failed.
According to an affidavit obtained by the Washington Post, Newcomb told Moran and the informant (an undercover FBI agent who helped catch these fools) at one point, ?If we have to do pow-pow, we will.?
The plot fell apart when all three men were arrested in 2015.
Driver was sentenced to four years in prison after he pleaded guilty in March, and the other two men, Moran and Newcomb, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder by a Columbia County jury; according to a statement from the office of Attorney General Pam Bondi on Tuesday.
“These Klansmen plotted to murder a black inmate after he was released from prison, but swift action and clever investigative tactics on behalf of investigators foiled their plot and may have saved a life,” Bondi said in a news release. “We will continue to work daily to ensure the KKK or any other hate-filled organization is unable to inflict violence on the citizens of our great state.”
Moran and the informant discussed in a recorded phone call how they would kill the victim. Newcomb allegedly showed the men syringes filled with insulin and a 9 mm handgun with ammunition that he said he had wiped clean of fingerprints.
“Newcomb pointed out that if they could grab (the victim) and take him to the river he would need to bring a fishing pole to make it look like (the victim) was at the river fishing,” reads the indictment.
The plot took place while Driver and Moran were guards at the Department of Corrections Reception and Medical Center in rural north Florida.
Newcomb had been a correctional officer until he got fired in 2013.
