*Popular Egyptian singer Sherine Abdel Wahab will be out of circulation for awhile after being convicted of “spreading false news” and sentenced to spend six months in prison.

According to reports, Wahab?s trouble began in November last year when a video showed up online. She was being asked to sing Mashrebtesh Men Nilha, which reportedly translates to have you drunk from the Nile? In response, she allegedly told a fan (on film) that drinking from the river could give them parasites, BBC reports.

?Drink Evian instead,? she warned.

A lawsuit filed against her put everything in motion.

The “parasites” Wahab referenced is reportedly known in Egypt as “bilharzia,” and is caused by parasitic flatworms that live in fresh water.

Wahab, who is also a judge on the Arabic version of “The Voice,” has since apologized for making what she now calls a “foolish joke.”
