*?These people need to be protected,? Chase said. ?Mistakes they make as a young child should not have to follow them for the rest of their life.? While this oh-so-familiar stance is one that suits young folks who may involve themselves in things like petty theft, smoking weed and even fighting, is it really suitable for hanging a kid from a tree?
Apparently it is according to Claremont Police Chief Mark Chase; who refuses to release information on the group of white teenagers who thought it was cool to hang an 8-year-old biracial boy from a tree.
Excuse me, but I’m still trying to wrap my brain around this cops opening words…”These people need to be protected.”
So we’re protecting the guilty now?
The incident happened on August 28 in New Hampshire, and Chase cites the fact that because these white kids are juveniles, he cannot discuss the case publicly. He then goes on to state how the justice system is designed differently: adults face punishment; while the youth juvenile justice system is designed to correct and rehabilitate aberrant behavior.
The boys mother, Cassandra Merlin, is beyond angry. She stated…
?So my son is being flown to Dartmouth after a 14 year old kid decided to hang him from a tree. I don?t care if this was a so called accident or not. My son almost died because of some little sh** teenage kids.? (sic)
It’s interesting to note how different the language is here, from the usual “hoodlums” and “criminals” used to describe African American teens such as Trayvon Martin.
Raw Story reports that the victim?s grandmother, Lorrie Slattery, said the boy was playing with a group of children and teens when they began to taunt him with racist epithets and throw sticks and rocks at him.
Someone stood on a picnic table and the group wrapped a rope from a nearby tire swing around the boy?s throat, then kicked him off the table.
The victim swung back and forth three times before he was able to free himself. None of the teens came to his aid.
Thanks to everything good, the little boy is recovering and preparing for his first day of school.
