*Though the majority of 2020 has required us to cover up our faces, that hasn’t stopped people from elective cosmetic procedures.

Even though many of these procedures won’t be seen in person for a little while, they’re still very much present. But what were the most popular cosmetic procedures in 2020? Let’s take a look.

Eye Treatments

Since face masks tend to bring more attention to the eyes because they cover the lower half of the face, 2020 saw an uptick in cosmetic eye treatments. Almost 88% of women say their hair has a direct impact on their confidence level, but the eyes really have it all! Most of the cosmetic eye procedures this year were minimally invasive and in some cases, preventative. Eye-focused requests for cosmetic improvement included treatments like brow lifts, eyelash extensions, and even Botox. In most cases, Botox was requested by younger patients who wanted to use it to prevent wrinkles and lift the eye area. Needless to say, enhancing the visible areas of the face this year was definitely a big trend in the cosmetic world.

Lip and Mouth Enhancements

Surprisingly enough, lip fillers were still a very popular cosmetic enhancement this year. Though you’d think covering the lower half of the face would decrease the demand for lip enhancing procedures, it’s had quite the opposite effect. With the ability to hide the lower half of the face, swelling and bruising that often accompany lip procedures are more easily concealed. As a result, more and more people are using this time to try new cosmetic procedures that can enhance the lips. In a similar vein, more people have been electing to whiten their teeth or have corrective dental work performed throughout 2020. Considering that almost 80% of people in the U.S. aged 18 to 49 want whiter teeth, it’s not a long shot to say that mouth-enhancing procedures like teeth whitening, Invisalign treatment, and other corrective dental procedures were popular.

PRP Treatments

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be used for a wide variety of cosmetic treatments. And in 2020, it certainly had its time in the sun. PRP therapy was used primarily in two categories this year — hair loss prevention and skin rejuvenation. PRP is actually considered a pretty standard treatment for hair loss prevention nowadays, and it works well for anyone trying to prevent further hair loss. The procedure involves injecting PRP from a patient’s own body into the scalp to stimulate hair growth and repair damaged hair follicles. But the scalp isn’t the only place where PRP is useful. In fact, facial skin can also really benefit from PRP treatment. Again, PRP from a patient’s own body can be used in combination with microneedling to provide healing, tightening treatments on the face. It might not be an ideal treatment for the 50 million people suffering from active acne, but it can be a great way to eliminate acne scarring.

While 2020 has been a strange year, it hasn’t deterred people from improving their appearance. These are just a few of the most popular cosmetic treatments from 2020 — what will 2021 bring?
